Queensway, Petts Wood

This road is the main route through the western part of Petts Wood and would be used by traffic from Orpington to Bromley, or vice versa. It primarily consists of parades of shops on either side of the road, with a major Safeway store also being present, and of course is an access route to Petts Wood station. The southern part of the road to be treated is however mainly residential. Traffic is generally fairly congested on the retail part of the road.

There are a number of roads that can be used to bypass the congested part of the town centre such as Lakeswood Road or Shepperton Road/Chesham Ave, although these are primarily residential roads so such diversion should not be encouraged which might be the result of putting speed bumps onto Queensway.

There are no zebra crossings, and shoppers cross the road to get from one row of shops to the other at any point in the road - there are some central pedestrian refuges but they are not always used.

The hump scheme consists of 6 sets of speed cushions (some staggered around central pedestrian refuges), plus gateway treatments at each end and a pedestrian crossing in front of Safeway (which B.B.R.A.G. would support). The total cost is £37,000.
